Though my first ambition was to be a rock star, I found myself in my first “grown-up” job as a receptionist at a large multi-specialist medical clinic in northern Illinois. I found out then that I gain just as much joy from helping people as I do entertaining them. I also found myself constantly seeking to learn more about the operations, documentation, and technology and continuously asking “why?” as a means to contribute to improvements. From there I pursued my education in public health and healthcare administration, later to be continued in health information management and technology. Meanwhile, my career path included provider credentialing, provider relations, managed care operations, quality improvement, and accreditation coordination. With my husband’s established position at Purdue University, I moved to Indiana in 2002. My career took a new path into ambulatory operations, health information management, project management, electronic health record selection and implementations, regulatory compliance, workflow mapping, practice transformation, strategic planning, and quality payment programs. I believe my diverse healthcare background from provider to payer to technology to state government and back to provider gives me a unique longitudinal perspective when approaching a project. I am also unique in my high-energy approach by engaging stakeholders at all levels of a project. I ask the right questions to break down ambiguity and develop an actionable plan. Together, we can improve lives.
